Oh, no....this time it's Gustav.

Can you believe it? Here we go again.

Even though I am 300 miles from the coast in Monroe, LA, the devastation of Katrina was felt here, too. Not so much the weather, but the social impact.  LA has not recovered, and there are thousands of our brothers and sisters still scattered over the US who have shared their personal tragedies with the entire nation.  Please, God, don't let it ever happen again.

My daughter and granddaughter are in Algiers. I hope they are on their way to my open door and loving arms.

Best of luck to all during your "evacuation-vacation!" If you're in the Monroe area and need a place to plug in your laptop or use a phone, don't hesitate to call me.

My heart goes out to everyone in Gustav's path. This has got to be a scary and stressful time for everyone in the region. Best of luck, and please keep us posted.

Thanks, Mary. The Region office evacuated on Friday. RD's assistant is sharing my office. We have about 30 KW family members scattered in homes around town and are expecting more as the time grows closer. Most people want to wait as long as they possibly can to leave.

You'll often hear people in Louisiana say, "at least we don't have wild fires!" I'm not sure which is worse!

Hi Gayle - I'm praying that somehow Gustav will weaken and change course in the next 24-48 hours. The KW Cares site has a check in page set up for this hurricane. Hopefully all from Monroe will check in as safe.

Hi Gayle!  I am here in Monroe on my evacuation-vacation.  I am from the Greater New Orleans area, the Westbank.  I pray that I will be able to go back to my home in New Orleans.  This is very stressful and scary because you just don't know.
